Moddo helps you build your own widgets. It is made so your data stays with you.
Summary
- No account and no servers of ours.
- No ads, no usage analytics and no tracking.
- We never see your data. The only thing that leaves your devices on its own is a widget you decide to share.
What the app stores
Your widgets, data sources, chosen photos, field values and settings are saved on your iPhone or iPad. Home Screen and Lock Screen widgets read this data on the device itself.
iCloud
Widgets, sources, photos and settings sync with your private iCloud database, which only your Apple Account can open. We have no way to read it.
Apple data
Moddo only reads what you allow, and only when you use that source in a widget.
- Health: steps, sleep, resting heart rate, water, mindful minutes, weight and other data you choose. Moddo only reads, it never writes to Health.
- Calendar and Reminders: your next events and reminders appear on the widget.
- Location: used for weather, sun and moon and air quality, only while the app is in use. You can also type a fixed place.
- Photos: only the photos you pick, stored in the app at a reduced size.
You can change these permissions at any time in the device Settings.
Web services
Some sources fetch data from the internet. These requests go straight from your device, with no identifier of yours and without passing through any server of ours.
- Weather and sun and moon: Apple WeatherKit, with the chosen location.
- Air quality: Open-Meteo, with the location rounded to about 1 km.
- Exchange rates: Frankfurter. Crypto: CoinGecko. Stocks: Stooq.
- GitHub: the public GitHub API, for public repositories only.
- Wikipedia: the Wikimedia API, in your language.
- JSON and RSS links: the addresses you type yourself.
As with any internet access, these services receive the IP address of the connection. Each one has its own privacy policy.
Sharing widgets
Sharing is optional and only happens when you tap Share on a widget.
- What is sent: the widget design, the sources it uses and the photos placed on it. Before upload, Moddo removes personal values: fixed locations go back to your current location, album photos are left out, manual and Shortcuts fields are reset (checklist titles stay, unchecked) and web addresses lose their query, fragment and any login.
- Where it goes: to Moddo’s public database on Apple iCloud (CloudKit). Anyone who has the link or QR code can open and import that copy. Apple keeps an anonymous identifier of your iCloud account with it, so only you can update or delete it. We never learn who you are.
- How to remove it: tap Stop Sharing, delete the widget or use Delete All Data in Settings. The public copy is deleted. People who already imported it keep their own copy.
Importing widgets
When you open a shared link, Moddo downloads the copy from iCloud and shows you what it contains before you add it. Imported photos are resized on your device. Sources that call a web service stay paused, and Moddo makes no request for them, until you authorize each one. The screen shows the exact address before you agree.
Apple Intelligence
The widget composer runs on your device with Apple Intelligence. Nothing is sent to us.
Shortcuts
Fields updated by Shortcuts stay on your device and in your iCloud.
Purchases
Moddo Plus is sold through the App Store and Apple handles the payment. We never receive your payment details.
Selling data
We do not sell your data, and we do not share it with anyone.
Third parties
There are no third-party SDKs for analytics, ads or tracking. iCloud, CloudKit, Health, WeatherKit and the App Store are Apple services, covered by Apple’s privacy policy.
Your choices
- Delete widgets and sources in the app whenever you like.
- Stop sharing any widget at any time.
- Delete all data in the app Settings. It is removed from this device, from iCloud and from the public share links.
- Turn off access to Health, Calendar, Reminders, Location and Photos in the device Settings.
- Deleting the app removes its data from your device.
Children
Moddo is not aimed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect their data.
Changes
If this policy changes, we will update this page and the date above.
